Welcome to the Race, Racism & Implicit Bias Research Project. The annotated bibliography will focus on providing an introduction to race, racism, and implicit bias for the novice. This section is in development. Last rev. 1/16/2021
The Race, Racism & Implicit Bias Studies will explore the ways in which the concept of systemic racism has had an impact on multiple societies. To date, I have developed a 92-page annotated bibliography. I am in the process of creating the Power Point audio versions of the research. I have not developed a strong research question, nor a sound persuasive thesis and/or argument. Development of the research thesis is ongoing.
In addition, I do not have sufficient graduate student preparation in/on the topic. This research project grows out of my exposure to YouTube videos on Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility, which has prompted the inclination to read sources beyond the scholarship I have found to date on implicit bias. There have been multiple buzzword discussions on this topic for which I was not initially interested in conducting research. However, it was DiAngelo's book and YouTube discussions that lit the metaphorical fire in my belly. Thus, I began studying her book, multiple videos, and scholarship on the topic.
This research study will produce an audio annotated bibliography on the topic to familiarize myself with concepts surrounding implicit and unconscious bias, from a novice viewpoint. A mission statement, purpose, goals, and learning objectives will be developed over time. In addition, a research question, assumptions, thesis, hypothesis, aims, etc. will all be considered over time.
I am not currently enrolled in a graduate doctoral program. This is a self-study research project. Consideration of a graduate program will come later.
